William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin, J R R Tolkien, Jane Austen, Charlie Chaplin, The Beatles and Tim Berners-Lee.

For a country less than a fiftieth of the size of the USA, and a fifth of the size of France, England has produced an incredible number of literary and scientific heroes.

We're also famous for a lovely cup of tea, fish and chips, and our English pubs. In fact, there are mock English pubs in many international cities, such as the Churchill Tavern in New York and The Aldgate in Tokyo.

So if you run a real English pub, make sure you celebrate in style this St George's Day (Wednesday 23rd April).

We've got loads of great English ales from local breweries, including.

  • Wells Waggle Dance Honey Beer and Wells Bombadier Premium Beer (From Bedfordshire)
  • Fentimans Traditional Ginger Beer (From Newcastle)
  • Adnams Southwold Bitter (from Suffolk)
  • Meantime London Lager
  • Wychwood Brewery Hobgoblin Beer (Oxfordshire)
  • St. Austell Tribute Beer (Cornwall)
  • Marston's Resolution Premium Low Carb Beer (Burton Upon Trent)

  • If you serve food in the evenings, why not offer a Traditional English Roast? Research by Unilever in 2012 suggested that many pubgoers would be interested in a roast on days besides Sunday.

Other great options include Fish and Chips, Lancashire Hot Pot, Bubble and Squeak, Toad in the Hole, trifle, apple crumble and Jam Roly Poly.

Whatever you serve on St George's Day, enjoy the day and raise a glass to our great country!
