Sochi Celebrations

By Jennifer Coles    Date released:  14th February 2014

The Winter Olympics at Sochi has provided us with some fantastic viewing so far, from Lizzy Yarnold hurtling down the Skeleton track at 80mph, pulling 5 Gs, to the amazing aerial action of the Ski Jumping Finals.

The events being held tonight and tomorrow should provide even more excitement, with the Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Freestyle, Cross County, Short Track, Snowboard and Speed Skating finals still to come.

All the action is being shown on the BBC, which means that any business premises with the appropriate television licence can show the coverage. So why not make an event of it? There's a full listing of coverage here.

Handheld scrumptiousness

Many of our publican customers find that handheld food works best when there's sport on TV. Juicy burgers, chicken wings and pulled pork sandwiches are all fantastic options. You could also make a big curry and serve it in disposable soup containers, which are easy to hold.

To make pulled pork, just take a Chef's Larder Boneless Tied Shoulder of Pork, rub with a seasoning containing brown sugar, sea salt, paprika, cayenne pepper, cumin, mustard and thyme, wrap in cling film and chill for two hours. Place a rack in a roasting tray, fill the tray with 100ml of water, and place the pork on top. Seal with foil and roast for 5 hours. When the pork is ready, place it on a board and use two forks to shred the meat.

Winter warmers

Russia's most famous export is arguably vodka, so why not offer a deal on vodka and a mixer?

For an Alpine feel, you can't beat mulled wine. You can either buy our ready-made mulled wine, or make your own by gently heating red wine, sugar, orange and lemon zest, mixed spice and cloves.

Around the world drinks

One great idea is to run drinks deals that reflect the nations competing. For example, if you screen the Four Man Run Bobsleigh Finals on Saturday, you could advertise the following international drinks on your blackboard:

  • Kronenbourg 1664 (France)
  • Smirnoff (Russia)
  • Holsten Pilsener (Germany)
  • Carling British Cider or Spitfire Kentish Ale (Great Britain)
  • Budweiser (USA)
  • Grolsch (Denmark)
  • Coors Light (Canada)
  • Peroni (Italy)
  • Brahma Lager (Brazil)

  • We've got some great wholesale deals available at the moment, so why not rustle up some great offers for your customers?

We hope you enjoy the event!
